Criminal Court has ordered the release of one out of the two men arrested in a Male' guesthouse for attempted rape.
A 32 and 33 year old man were arrested on Thursday night, out of which the younger man has now been released. The police are working on appealing his release at the High Court.
The Criminal Court remanded the 33 year old to five days in custody on Friday.
The incident occurred around 10.55pm on Thursday night, revealed the police earlier. Screaming was heard coming from a guest house in Maafannu ward by police patrolling the streets, who then entered the building to find the cause. Upon inspection, it was identified that four men had attempted to rape a woman inside the guest house.
By the time the police arrived at the guesthouse, two out of the four men had already fled. While one of the two remaining men were arrested while inside the guesthouse, the second man was arrested on the street while he attempted to flee.
Upon searching the room occupied by the group, a bottle and cups containing what was suspected to be alcohol were discovered.
The police are investigating the case further.
