Maldivian Embassy in Sri Lanka has confirmed that there are no reports of a Maldivian being injured in Sunday's terrorist attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.
A string of explosions hit two churches as worshipers attended Easter services on the Christian holiday, in addition to several high-end hotels. The affected locations are Saint Anthony Church, Saint Sebastien Church, Shangrila Hotel, Cinnamon Grande Hotel, Kingsbury Hotel.
While the death toll of the attacks has reached over 130, more than 300 people have been injured in the blasts. An official from the Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka confirmed to AVAS that no reports of Maldivian casualties have been received thus far.
"We have checked all the hospitals the casualties were taken to. None of the victims at the hospitals were of Maldivian nationality", he said.
The Embassy is further confirming if any Maldivians were staying at the hotels that were hit in the attack.
"The area where the hotels are located have been closed off. We are having trouble acquiring information due to the obstruction. However, we have received no reports that a Maldivian was hurt in the hotels", he added.
While the death toll of the terrorist attack has reached 130, AFP reports that nine foreigners are included in this statistic.
The airport security has been tightened following the attacks, and Sri Lanka's national airline 'Sri Lankan' has urged travelers flying today to arrive at the airport four hours prior to time of departure.
Foreign Ministry has set up hotlines for those seeking assistance or information on Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka. The Foreign Ministry has urged all Maldivians to stay indoors.
