The last sitting of the 18th parliament has been scheduled for April 29, Monday.
The announcement was made by Speaker of the Parliament Gasim Ibrahim during Tuesday's parliament sitting.
Gasim said the decision was made following discussion with the parliamentary groups of political parties. Therefore, after the conclusion of the final sitting, the four year term of the current parliament will officially come to an end. The first sitting of the 19th Parliament will be held in June.
The parliamentary election was held earlier this month, with main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party securing super majority of 65 seats in a landslide victory. Jumhooree Party, and opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) each secured five seats, while Peoples' National Congress (PNC) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) won two seats each. Seven seats were won by independent candidates.
