The Supreme Court on Wednesday summoned former Attorney General Husnu-Al-Suood for questioning over remarks he made on public television regarding the judiciary.
Speaking on a program aired by local TV station Raajje TV on Monday, the president of the Commission Investigating Deaths and Enforced Disappearances had stated that the judges of both the lower courts and the Supreme Court need to be replaced, adding that he had no confidence in the Supreme Court justices. He made the comments over the happenings in February 2018, where the Supreme Court had issued controversial orders to release political prisoners, said Suood.
The Supreme Court had earlier said in a press statement that Suood’s comments can be held in contempt of court, and violates the Judicature Act, and will be further investigated by the Justices' Council of the Supreme Court.
The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) summoned Suood at 1.15pm, where he was questioned regarding the motive and intent behind his comments, said Suood. In response, Suood had informed that his comments were not made in order to fulfill any specific motives, but was merely expressing his opinion on the matter.
Suood is infamous for vocalizing his opinions on judiciary reform, and frequently criticizes the judiciary. He has been suspended multiple times by the Supreme Court over comments made in the past.
