National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) of the Humans Rights Commission on Thursday inspected the condition of Male’ Prison.
HRCM revealed that the purpose of the inspection is to identify the extent to which the recommendations made by the HRCM after their inspections of the jail in 2011, 2014 and 2017 have been implemented. The Commission will also identify the challenges and issues faced in implementing recommendations that have remained unattended over a long period.
The commission will share a report on their findings with Male’ Prison and Maldives Correctional Services within three days after the conclusion of the visit. Discussions will be held with Male’ Prison and other relevant authorities on their findings, while the commission will also be following up on the rate of implementation of their recommendations in writing twice an year.
