Four appointments made as PNC's Vice Presidents

Four appointments have been made for the post of vice president of People's’ National Congress (PNC).

Villingili MP who recently joined the party Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, former cabinet minister Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), former Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed and Baarah MP Ismail Sujau were elected for as the party’s vice presidents at their congress held on Friday.

Former Managing Director of state utility company FENAKA Corporation, Mohamed Nimal also contested for the position, but did not receive an adequate number of votes to be elected.

While Nihan received 126 votes, both Sujau and Shareef were tied at 122 votes each. Saeed received 120 votes while Nimal received only 39 votes.

People’s National Congress was established on the advice of former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom when the ownership of his party Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) was in question. The party’s founder Abdul Raheem Abdulla was elected as the party’s president during Friday’s congress by default as no other candidates contested for the post.
