Ibrahim Fazeel, who was suspected of being involved in disappearance of local girl Aminath Shima has been arrested for holding hostage and attempting to mug a man in Gan island of Laamu atoll.
According to reports, Fazeel held a 44-year old man hostage and extorted MVR 8900 from him before releasing him on condition that he would provide further payment. The victim later tracked down and threatened, and intimidated into giving more money.
After the incident, Fazeel fled the island and was in hiding in reclaimed suburbs Hulhumale' when he was arrested. Three additional arrests were made in addition to Fazeel.
Fazeel was previously arrested for abducting the younger sister of the girl who was lost at sea when the dinghy she was traveling in with Fazeel capsized earlier this March.
