A 71-year old man has been arrested in connection to the sexual abuse case of a 9-year old girl. Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo Magistrate Court on Tuesday remanded the man into 15 days in state custody.
The police made the arrest while rumors that the man molested the girl were circulating on social media. The man is reported to be the lover of the girl’s mother.
The 13 and 16 year old brothers of the victim are also suspected to have molested their younger sibling.
The police have not divulged the details of the case, although it was revealed that the case was reported on May 10 from a local island. The investigation is being conducted in liaison with Gender Ministry due to the nature of the case.
