President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his victory in the ongoing general election of India.
In a tweet posted by the President, he stated that the result of the election is a strong affirmation of the Indian people’s confidence in the BJP-led government.
The President further expressed hope that India and Maldives would continue to enhance the bilateral relations between both countries.
While the vote counting of the world’s biggest election, which was spread over seven phases is currently ongoing, Modi’s BJP is in the lead in most areas.
While 542 parliamentarians have been elected to the 'Lok Sabha', the Lower House of India's bicameral Parliament, the current results show that BJP is in the lead with 320 seats while opposing Indian National Congress (INC) has secured around 100 seats.
Over 900 million people are eligible to vote in the Indian General Election.
