The Elections Commission (EC) has notified Ministry of Finance to issue the government funding to the four political parties that exceed a party membership of 10,000 people.
EC member Ahmed Akram on Sunday revealed that the request to issue the funds was made at the Finance Ministry last Thursday. The parties that are qualified to receive the funds are Maldives Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP), Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).
The funds allocated to PPM were previously withheld by the commission, and is now being released as the party has paid off all fines pertaining to the party, said Akram.
Details of the funds allocated for political parties:
MDP: MVR 12.8 million
PPM: MVR 9.3 million
JP: MVR 2.5 million
MDA: MVR 2.03 million
