Economic growth of Maldives will be maintained above 6.5%, Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has assured.
International financial institutions earlier predicted that the economic growth of the Maldives will increase to 7.9%. However, the projection was later reviewed and the percentage was decreased accordingly.
The World Bank has predicted that the growth of the Maldivian Economy would decline in the next three years due to current projects nearing completion while new projects have not been commenced. While the economic growth is expected to be at a percentage of 5.7 during the current year, the number would decrease further to 5.2% in 2020 and climb up to 5.3% in 2021.
Speaking on 'Raajje Miadhu' program aired on PSM, Minister Ameer assured that he is confident that the economic growth of Maldives can be maintained at 6.5%.
Although the World Bank has predicted that the growth would decline, International Monetary Fund (IMF) is hopeful that the growth would increase to 6.5%, predicting that investments in Maldives would increase due to the development of different sectors under the mandates of the new government.
