Govt to amend laws to be more favourable to investors

Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has stated that the government is working to bring changes to investment laws to pave way for the foreign investors.

Speaking at the two-day Maldives Partnership Forum being held at Kurumba Maldives, Minister Ameer noted the government's priority on centering development projects around the visionary concept of "Jazeera Raajje", and acknowledged that several development projects are currently ongoing.

"We are in the process of amending laws to ensure that the Maldives is attractive and reliable to investors. We are working to ensure that the challenges faced by foreign investors are addressed. We will amend the laws to ensure that it is more favorable for our investors", he said.

The government is also working on establishing an arbitration center to increase the trust of investors, revealed the minister. The minister added that development can be brought though joint efforts with the private sector.

27 organizations and over 130 representatives from 35 countries are participating in the partnership forum. The government has stated that this year's forum has highest rate of participants thus far, and will become a historical event.
