JSC to probe disciplinary complaint against Criminal Court judge

A disciplinary case against Judge Hassan Najeeb of Criminal has been filed at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

AVAS has found out that the case was filed alleging that Najeeb had actively worked to campaign for Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)'s Ga. atoll candidate for the 2017 local council election.

Najeeb was promoted as a Criminal Court judge in April 2018 while he was a magistrate at Ga. Villingili Court.

A disciplinary case against Najeeb is being filed at a time when the actions of several judges are being probed, including top court judge Abdulla Didi in addition to three other judges of the same court.

However, the Supreme Court on Wednesday issued an order stating that disciplinary action against judges cannot be pursued in relation to the merits of their rulings.
