JSC increases Criminal Court bench to seven justices

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Wednesday made the decision to add two additional judges to the Criminal Court bench on the request of the Supreme Court.

Speaking to the press after Wednesday's commission meeting, Director of the commission Hassan Zaheen said JSC made the decision to grant the top court's request to add two more justices to the Criminal Court bench. The positions will be established and announced for application on Thursday, said Zaheen.

The commission also made the decision to look into complaints that court proceedings of some cases are exceedingly delayed, in order to identify if there is any negligence involved on the part of the presiding judges, said Zaheen.

In the event that it is identified that the judges are responsible for the delays, disciplinary investigations will be conducted on such judges, the commission informed.
