The number of Chinese tourists traveling to Maldives has increased drastically after a recent decline.
According to statistic released by the Tourism Ministry, 21,010 Chinese tourists arrived in the Maldives during May, which is a 24.1% increase compared to the same period the previous year. During May 2018, 16,927 Chinese tourists traveled to the Maldives.
While 116,282 Chinese traveled to Maldives by end of May this year, 104,559 Chinese tourists traveled to the archipelago in the same period last year. With the 15.5% increase in Chinese tourist arrival, the country has maintained its position as the number one country from which most number of tourists travel to Maldives from, with a large difference in numbers between the contenders that follow behind.
Italy follows behind with 71,334 tourists thus far this year and a 34.2% growth, and India is listed as number three, with 66,265 arrivals.
According to the statistics, a total of 103,022 tourists arrived in the Maldives during May 2019, an increase of 10.9% from the previous year. The total number of tourists to have arrived also increased by 18.4% with 749,114 tourists.
