Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid met with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Vice-President of the European Union Commission, Federica Mogherini in Brussels, Belgium.
During the meeting, Federica Mogherini underlined the EU's readiness to support the Maldives on its path of democracy and socio-economic development. The High Representative and Minister Shahid also agreed to enhance cooperation between Maldives and the EU through yearly meetings at senior officials’ level.
The European Union revealed in a statement that High Representative Mogherini and Minister Shahid furthermore discussed closer EU-Maldives cooperation in the area of counter terrorism and security reform, in addition to climate change and environmental issues.
EU also stated that Federica Mogherini and Abdulla Shahid agreed on the shared interest in upholding the rules-based international order, and to keep peace in the Indian Ocean.
