Abdul Maniu Hussain has been elected as the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) member appointed from among lawyers.
Maniu received 199 votes in Saturday's election, while Ali Rasheed came second with 124 votes. Former Information Commissioner Abdul Azeez Jamaal received 37 votes while Haneefa Khalid received 27 votes.
While three ballot boxes were placed in Male' City and southernmost Addu City, 404 lawyers voted in the election.
This is the first election organized by the newly established Bar Council, the regulatory body for all issues lawyer-related.
