Maldives Immigration has established a Document Examination Lab at Gan International Airport in southernmost Addu City.
The lab was inaugurated by Mayor of Addu City, Abdulla Sadiq at a ceremony held at Gan Airport on Sunday.
Immigration said the establishment of the lab will allow the authority to examine passports using modern technology to ensure that it is legal. It will also enhance the passenger screening mechanism and assist in identifying illegitimate travelers, said Immigration.
This is the second such lab being established at a Maldives airport. The first document examination lab was established at Velana International Airport in 2015.
