Six taxi drivers fined for overcharging passengers

Six taxi drivers who overcharged passengers have been fined by Maldives Police Service.

Police revealed Saturday that the drivers were fined in an operation conducted by the police between 7th to 9th August, under Article 5 of Land Transport Act.

Transport Ministry last week announced new taxi fares for rides in capital Male' region. The new fares are as follows:

- Male' to Hulhumale and vice versa: MVR 75
- Male' to Hulhule' and vice versa: MVR 60
- Hulhumale' to Hulhule' and vice versa: MVR 60
- Rides within Male' and Hulhumale': MVR 25

Drivers are not permitted to charge more for luggage.

Some drivers have protested against the new fares, and refused to provide services at the revised prices.
