Govt submits supplementary budget for Parliament approval

The government has submitted a supplementary budget for Parliament approval.

Finance Ministry had previously stated that while the national budget for the current year was proposed by the previous government, it poses challenges to implementing some policies of the new administration.

The ministry has confirmed that the supplementary budget was submitted at the parliament on Wednesday, although they did not reveal the proposed budget amount.

A total budget of MVR 30.2 billion was approved for the current year by the parliament. Although the budget, with deficit of MVR 4 billion, was proposed by the previous government, budget was allocated to fulfill some pledges and projects of the current government.

However, as the budget allocated for some projects are insufficient to fully implement the projects, the new administration opted to defer the projects until the last few months of the year, the Planning Minister has previously revealed.
