Voting underway to elect lower court judge to JSC

Voting is underway to elect a lower court judge to the Judicial Service Commission.

A new member is being elected due to the term of current lower courts representative, Juvenile Court's Judge Mohamed Eesa's term coming to an end on 27th August.

While voting commenced at 9:00 am on Saturday morning, it will go on until 5:00 pm.

Three judges applied to contest for the JSC seat. They are Criminal Court Chief Judge Ahmed Hailam, Magistrate Abdul Razzaq Mohamed from GDh. Fiyori Court and Chief Magstrate of L. Fonadhoo Magstrate Court Ali Shareef.

Ballot boxes have been placed in the capital island of each atoll, in addition to Male', Fuvahmulah and Addu City. Male' City's box has been placed at the Training Hall in the old Jamaluddin Building.

The 10-member Judicial Service Commission consist of the The Speaker of the Speaker of the People’s Majlis, a Judge of the Supreme Court, a Judge of the High Court, a Judge of the Lower Courts, a member of the People’s Majlis, a member of the general public, the President of the Civil Service Commission, a person appointed by the President, the Attorney General, and a lawyer elected from among the lawyers
licensed to practice in the Maldives.
