Key members of opposition alliance Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Peoples' National Congress (PNC) have left their parties to join Jumhooree Party (JP).
In a ceremony held on Monday night, former Vice President of Maldives Abdulla Jihad, former Home Minister Azleen Ahmed, and former Villimale' MP Ahmed Nihan Hussin Manik joined Jumhooree Party.
Former MPs Ibrahim Falaah, and Ali Arif also joined Jumhooree Party along with former MP Ahmed Assad and former Secretary General of PPM, Iqbal.
It was earlier reported that one of the closest aides of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, Abdul Raheem 'Adurey' Abdulla, who is currently iin Malasysia will be joining JP next week upon his return.
However, Adurey has since denied that he is leaving PNC and assured that he would remain loyal to president Yameen.
