President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has nominated former Finance Minister Ali Hashim for the post of Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
Ali Hashim previously served as the Minister of Finance during the tenure of President Mohamed Nasheed from 2008-2010.
While Hashim's name has been forwarded to the parliament for consideration, it is believed that a decision will be made soon.
The post of Governor of the central bank became vacant after Governor Ahmed Naseer resigned from the post amidst several serious allegations against him. While speaking to the parliament's Public Finance Committee, former head of MMA's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) Ahmed Ashraf accused Governor Naseer of attempting to influence the unit's work.
