Newly opened Ithaafushi resort ranks high in service charge charts

Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi has been ranked as the number two resort to give the highest service charge to its employees last month.

According to MaldivesSC.com, Cheval Blanc Randheli topped the service charge charts with its staff receiving US$ 1286.3 during August. Hilton's Ithaafushi resort, which opened earlier this July followed close behind, with its staff receiving a service charge of US$ 832 during August.

The information listed on the website show that the highest amount given as service charge this year was US$ 3016.02, given by Velaa Private Island to its employees in January.

Almost all resorts operating in the Maldives give a service charge to its staff. However, a large amount is given as service charge by few select resorts. An amendment to the law which would mandate all resorts to give a 10% service charge to employees was recently submitted at the parliament.
