Finance Ministry to publicize details of government projects

Finance Ministry has revealed that information on upcoming development projects will be disclosed as soon as the processes at National Tender Board are completed.

Media Executive of Finance Ministry Mohamed Shanoon said the ministry made the decision to publicize information on the projects at the earliest to be in line with the government's policy to increase transparency and accountability of government processes.

"We made the decision in order to be in line with the government's policy to increase transparency. According to the Public Finance Act, all projects above MVR 2.5 million will have to go through the Tender Board. Henceforth, information [on projects] will be publicized as soon as the tender board's processes are completed", said Shanoon.

Finance Ministry's website has already published a list of 'Awarded Projects', which outlines details of 68 projects that have been awarded to different companies by government entities. This is the fist time a list of contractors have been publicized.
