The police have destroyed over 51,000 bottles of alcohol under the custody of the Custom Bonded Warehouse.
While 51,612 bottles were destroyed, along with 783 packets and 3 cans of alcohol at the waste disposal site in Thilafushi under the observation of Customs Officers and media personnel earlier this week.
Likewise, a large amount of bottles were destroyed on August 31.
Over 8,500 bottles have been taken into police custody over the past nine years. Being an Islamic nation, alcohol is effectively banned for the local population. While most resorts and safaris are licensed to serve alcohol, it is prohibited for unlicensed parties to bring in alcohol to the country.
