Police probe threats made against man arrested for blasphemy

Maldives Police Service have launched an investigation into threats made against man who was arrested for blasphemy.

The man was arrested from GDh. Thinadhoo on Tuesday after he posted several messages against Islam on popular social media platform Twitter.

Maldives Police Service Wednesday said the man has been remanded for 15 days by the Criminal Court. The police have also launched a separate investigation into the treats that are being made against him.

The man who goes by the Twitter handle @RusthumRussso had tweeted that he propagated anti-Islamic sentiments to a group of youth in Thinadhoo. He proudly claimed this was the beginning of his open protests again Islam.
