'No police negligence in handling Rilwan's case'

National Integrity Commission (NIC) has concluded that there was no negligence on the part of Maldives Police Service (MPS) in investigating Miniwan News journalist Ahmed Rilwan's abduction and murder.

The commission on Thursday responded to a claim filed five years ago by Rilwan's family that the police had been negligent in handling Rilwan's case.

In their response, NIC said there was no evidence to support that the police had been irresponsible in handling the case. Therefore, the commission came to the conclusion that the police had not been negligent in their actions, it read.

The investigation into the complaint filed by Rilwan's family in 2014 was concluded on September 2 this year. The Presidential Commission Investigating Enforced Disappearances and Murders had revealed the details of Rilwan's death the day before.
