Tourism Ministry has revealed that the World Tourism Day 2019 celebrations will kick off with a "Jazeera" [sland style] Canoe Race.
The Ministry revealed that teams from 18 atolls will be participating in the race. Both male and female teams from each atoll will be invited to participate in this race, an official said.
The female team will canoe from Keyodhoo island of Vavu atoll to Fulidhoo island of the same atoll, while the male team will race from Vaavu Fulidhoo to Vaavu Thinadhoo.
The photos and videos taken from the race will be used to advertise Maldivian tourism.
There are a number of exciting activities lined up for World Tourism Day celebrations. The activities include:
- Free Dive World Record attempt.
- Tourism Job Fair.
- Laying the foundation for the Tourist Visitor Centre at Angolhitheemu.
- Tourism Open Day.
- Kids Football Fiesta.
- Tourism Conference & Gala Dinner
