First tourist visitor center being established in Angolhitheem

The foundation of the first-ever tourist visitor center being established in the Maldives was laid in Raa. Angolhitheem on Monday.

The foundation was laid by the widowed wife and daughter of late Abdulla Rasheed, alongside Tourism Minister Ali Waheed and Heritage Minister Yumna Maumoon.

Tourism Minister Ali Waheed revealed investors of the tourism sector has agreed to contribute MVR 500,000 towards the establishment of the center as CSR.

Minister Waheed said the government would ensure that the center is a popular destination for tourists visiting the Maldives.

Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITD) Mohamed Raaid said two galleries will be established at the center. While one gallery will tell the story of the Maldives' journey to democracy and exhibit historical pictures of the Maldives, the second gallery will exhibit information and items on Angolhitheem's history and that of the atoll, said Raaid.

The center will also have cafe's, lounges and restroom facilities.
