Maldivian wins seat on New Zealand's Hutt City Council

A Maldivian woman with New Zealand citizenship has won a seat on New Zealand's Hutt City Council.

Shazly Rasheed, who has been residing in New Zealand for the past 20 years won the council election held on 12th October in Hutt City.

Shazly is a successful entrepreneur who runs a popular salon in the city. During her campaign, Shazly pledged to increase business and employment opportunities in Hutt City.

Shazly ran in the election as an independent candidate and won over 8000 votes, becoming one of the 11 councilors on the council. Following the election, she thanked all citizens for their support and reiterated her promise to make Lower Hutt a peaceful and prosperous city.

Hutt City has a population of 104,700.
