Maldivian to compete in New Zealand's Hutt City Council election

A Maldivian woman is running for a seat on New Zealand's Hutt City Council.

Shazly Rasheed, who resides in New Zealand will be competing in the upcoming council election scheduled to take place on 12th October.

In a Facebook post announcing her candidacy, Shazly said Hutt City can do better although it is a great place to raise a family, start a business and enjoy the great outdoors.

"My vision is for a thriving city where businesses want to invest and create job opportunities. I want Lower Hutt to be safe, friendly and inclusive, the best place to bring up families and run a business", she wrote.

Hutt City has a population of 104,700.
