Minister urges officers to take initiative to improve jail conditions

Home Minister Imran Abdulla has urged employees at the Maldives Correctional Services to take initiative to bring improvements to jails.

Speaking at a training program held for mid-management level officers of Corrections, Minister Imran said that the condition of the jails will not improve unless the officers took initiative to bring about positive changes after finishing training programs.

The Minister stated that the programs targeted for Corrections officers were being conducted to ensure that Maldivian jails are operated in ways that do not violate and infringe human rights, and to rehabilitate convicts so that they contribute to the society positively once they are free.
