Ex-MP Alhan's attacker sentenced to seven years in prison

Criminal Court has sentenced the man who attacked former Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy to seven years in jail.

The trial, which began in 2015 concluded on Thursday and sentenced Mohamed Naseem from S. HIthadhoo to seven years in jail. The sentence issued by Criminal Court judge Ali Rasheed said although the defendant denied carrying out the attack, the evidence presented by the State proves his involvement beyond reasonable doubt.

Naseem received five years for causing an injury and two years for using a sharp object to carry out the attack.

Alhan was attacked in 2014 while he was dining at Break Water Restaurant in Artificial Beach. He sustained serious injuries in the attack.
