Hashim appointed to Thai Embassy

Former president of Dhidhdhoo council Ali Hashim has been appointed as the Second Secretary at the Maldives embassy in Thailand.

Hashim previously made controversial statements on an episode of "Undercover" by Channel News, on which he expressed concern on the large number of students at Dhidhdhoo school who chose to wear hijab, the Islamic head-covering, and blamed it on radicalization and extremism in Maldives. His statement sparked outrage, and he received heavy criticism for his remarks.

Earlier this January, Hashim resigned from Dhidhdhoo council after people of Dhidhdhoo island signed petitions and called for his resignation over his contentious statements.
