Police probe officers for alleged involvement in MMPRC graft

The police have revealed that they are investigating some of their officers for their alleged involvement in the MMPRC graft.

The official audit report into the MMPRC scandal revealed that over US$ 79 million had been embezzled through the state tourism promotion company, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

The police on Tuesday said the Police Professional Command has been investigating the officers since October 13.

The number of involved officers cannot be disclosed at the time due to ongoing investigation, said the police.

“The involved officers are of different ranks. This includes non commissioned officers, commissioned officers and executive level officers", said the police.

Anti-Corruption Commission's report into the scandal as well as audit reports have noted the involvement and negligence of several government entities in executing the graft.

Recently, the Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham revealed that several parliament members, judges and cabinet ministers are implicated in the graft.
