Five officers being probed over corruption allegations

Maldives Police Service have revealed that five officers who are being investigated over corruption allegations have been suspended.

Police media official on Thursday said criminal and administrative investigations that involve the five officers are ongoing in connection to the MMPRC scandal, and they have thus been relieved from their duties.

Two officers were previously accused of being involved in the MMPRC corruption in which millions in state funds were embezzled. However, no action has been taken against them to date.

Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has announced that the persons involved in the case will soon be charged, and that the case will be filed in court. Shameem said politicians from all political parties were involved in the MMPRC corruption. Charges will be sought irrespective of what party they represent, said Shameem.
