Six individuals from general public apply for JSC membership

Six individuals have applied for membership of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) from among the general public.

Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed announced during Wednesday's parliament sitting that six individuals applied for JSC membership.

The names have been forwarded to the Parliament's Judiciary Committee for evaluation, and the appointment will be made by the parliament.

The individuals who applied for the position are Zubair Ahmed Manik, Ali Mohamed Manik, Ahmed Mizmad, Ahmed Saavee, Mirfath Faiz and Hussain Amr.

The JSC is comprised of ten members, including the Speaker of the Parliament, a judge of the Supreme Court, a judge of the High Court, a judge of the Lower Courts, a member of the Parliament, a member of the general public, the President of the Civil Service Commission, a person appointed by the President, the Attorney General, and a lawyer elected from among the lawyers licensed to practice in the Maldives.
