Chief Magistrate of Kaafu atoll Judicial Sector Mohamed Ragib Ahmed has resigned from his post.
His resignation comes while the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Wednesday made the decision to pursue his dismissal through the parliament.
In his letter of resignation addressed to the President of JSC, Ragib said JSC was prejudiced in their investigation, and alleged that the commission did not allow him to respond in detail to the allegations against him.
"[JSC] decided to pursue my dismissal on a personal agenda, without taking into account the 16 page statement I sent to the commission which explained why the evidence against me are not substantial", said Ragib in his letter.
He further accused the commission's members were politically motivated, and said he does not believe the commission can justly oversee cases while one political party holds majority on the commission.
JSC's investigative committee that probed the judge's disciplinary issues recommended the commission to dismiss him earlier this month on October 7. Magistrate Ragib was given a period of 30 days to respond to the report issued by the committee on their findings.
JSC has investigated several judges over the past few months. Recently, Ibrahim Rasheed of GDh. Thinadhoo Magistrate Court, and Supreme Court Judge Abdulla Didi were dismissed through the parliament.
