Parliament secretariat on Sunday announced its decision to allow lawmaker to meet their respective constituents at the Parliament premises.
Parliament Secretary General Fathimath Niusha told local reporters that the Secretariat would make the necessary arrangements for MPs to meet their constituents upon request.
"Parliament made the decision to allow MPs to meet their constituents as part of the efforts to foster closer relations between the lawmakers and their constituents," Niusha explained.
Every main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MP) lawmaker to open an office in their constituents remain one of the electoral pledges of the party before its overwhelming victory in the parliamentary elections in April this year. However, most MDP lawmakers are yet to fulfill the pledge.
It has always been one of the main complains that once the area member is sworn in that member fail to meet with their constituents.
