Former Police Commissioner and Thimarafushi MP Abdulla Riyaz has stated that all information on the murder of former MP Dr Afrasheem Ali have been disclosed to the Presidential Commission on Murders and Enforced Disappearances.
The religious scholar was found brutally murdered in the stairwell of his residence on October 2, 2012. Abdulla Riyaz, who was the Commissioner of Police at the time had previously stated that he would publicly reveal information on Afrasheem's murder when an 'appropriate platform' was available. The public have been raising concern on his statement, questioning if such a platform is still unavailable.
Riyaz on Tuesday said that the details of the murder investigation have been disclosed to the Presidential Commission. He further revealed that he answered all inquiries of the commission regarding Afrasheem's case.
Earlier this month on November 2, the commission had stated that it would soon disclose their findings on the murder Dr Afrasheem and reveal those behind it.
While the commission previously revealed that that the perpetrators behind the murder had been identified, they confirmed that a report on their investigation had been shared with the President's Office.
It is a presidential pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to seek justice for Dr Afrasheem's murder. The commission investigating murders recently revealed that the those behind the murder of MP Afrasheem Ali, journalist Ahmed Rilwan and blogger Yameen Rasheed were extremist religious groups.
