Two foreign boats detained in Maldivian waters

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Monday detained two foreign fishing boats trespassing in Maldivian waters.

MNDF senior spokesperson Major Ibrahim Azim said two fishing boats sailing under an Indian flag were detained 29 nautical miles of Thuraakunu.

The two boats are currently moored off Uligamu island under police custody.

Azim said one of boat had nine people aboard the vessel while the other boat had ten people. Azim said the situation has been informed to all the authorities and the issue is being investigated.
