Bus driver involved in fatal accident remanded for seven days

The driver of the MTCC bus involved in the fatal accident which killed a 13-year old on Tuesday night has been remanded to 7 days in jail.

Police said the driver was arrested and presented to the Criminal Court, upon which the court remanded him for a period of seven days. No further information can be disclosed at the time due to ongoing investigation, said the police.

The accident occurred on Tuesday night near the end of the highway connecting Hulhumale' and the Sinamale' Bridge. The 13-year old girl, who was on the passenger seat of the motorcycle being driven by her mother was flung from her seat and hit her head upon collision. While the girl died from her injuries, her mother was not seriously injured in the accident.

It was reported that the bus drove away from the scene following the accident. MTCC said the driver was not aware of the collision, and that none of the passengers on the bus were aware that an accident had taken place.
