The position of Chief Judicial Administrator has opened for application.
Judicial Service Commission (JSC) revealed on Wednesday that the position of Chief Judicial Administrator will be open for application until December 9.
Applicants must hold a first degree in the field of administration or law, and must have minimum ten years of experience in either field to qualify for the post. Applicants are required to be a Maldivian Muslim, and must not be affiliated with any political parties.
Chief Judicial Administrator will receive a salary of MVR 30,500, a living allowance of MVR 15,000 and phone allowance of MVR 2,000.
The position opened up for candidacy following recent amendments to JSC Act passed by Parliament that renders the dismissal of current Chief Judicial Administrator Dr. Abdulla Nazeer and Judicial Academy Chancellor Ahmed Maajid from their posts.
The bill directed the creation of a Department of Judicial Administration as a Government entity with its own set mandate, under the jurisdiction of the Judicial Service Commission. Therefore, the DJA currently under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court will be dissolved with the establishment of the new entity. Once the new DJA is established, a new Chief Judicial Administrator will be appointed. According to the bill, the authority to appoint and dismiss individuals to the position lies with the JSC.
Dr. Abdulla Nazeer was appointed as Judicial Administrator on November 28, 2018. Prior to this, Dr. Nazeer filled the position of State Minister at the Education Ministry under former President Abdulla Yameen's administration.
