Suood resigns from commission; appointed to top court

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed former Chairman of the Presidential Commission Investigating Murders and Enforced Disappearances, Husnu-al-Suood to the Supreme Court.

President Solih presented Suood his letter of appointment at a ceremony held at the President's Office on Sunday afternoon.

Suood resigned from his post as the Chairman of the Presidential Commission earlier on Sunday after the Parliament approved to appoint him to the Supreme Court as per President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's recommendation the previous day.

Husnu-al-Suood holds a Masters of Laws from the University of Queensland, Australia, and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the International Islamic University, Malaysia. He served as the Attorney General during former President Mohamed Nasheed's tenure.
