Maldives parliament signs MoU with India's Lok Sabha

The People's Majlis of Maldives has signed an agreement of cooperation with Lok Sabha, the lower house of India's bicameral parliament.

The memorandum of understanding was exchanged between the two parliaments during a ceremony held in India on Monday.

Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed signed the MoU on behalf of the People's Majlis of Maldives while the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla signed the agreement on behalf of Lok Sabha.

The parliament secretariat revealed that training opportunities will be provided to the parliament's secretariat staff under the agreement of cooperation.

The parliament approved to exchange the memorandum of understanding titled 'Agreement For Cooperation Between Lok Sabha of the Republic of India and the People's Majlis of the Republic of Maldives' in a vote taken during the final sitting of the third term of the parliament. 68 members voted in favour of signing the agreement.

A multiparty delegation of 15 parliamentarians accompanied by the Secretary General of the Parliament Fathimath Niusha and Counsellor General Fathimath Filza are currently visiting India for the purpose. Their return is scheduled for Friday.
