Health Ministry has begun final preparations to begin services at the Equatorial Hospital being developed at Addu City's Convention Centre.
The ministry on Wednesday said the hospital will begin its services on Sunday next week.
The ministry undertook efforts to finalize all preparations and begin services at the hospital during November. However, its opening was delayed for unforeseen reasons.
"On Sunday, we will be launching services at the hospital. However, we will not be officially opening the hospital yet," the ministry said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Vice President Faisal Naseem visited Addu City and monitored the progress of the hospital development project.
During the visit to the hospital development site, the Vice President toured the facility and met with the staff. Speaking with them, he reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to improving health care services across the country. He further urged them to be sensitive and compassionate caregivers.
A convention centre was specially built in Hithadhoo, Addu City during the tenure of former President Mohamed Nasheed for the 17th SAARC Summit hosted by Maldives in November 2011. Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom during his administration made the decision to convert the convention centre into a state-of-the-art 100 bed hospital. The project contracted to Alia Construction has been completed and handed over to the government. The government is currently making final preparations to open the hospital.
