Important decisions by the Cabinet

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has made important decisions in a cabinet meeting. To get advice on signing the Revised Kyoto Convention (RKC), to participate in Asia and Pacific Commission on Agricultural Statistics (APCAS), to discuss with the Parliament the reservations they have regarding article 16 of Convention on Eliminating all kinds of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAO).

According to the President’s Office, the president made these decisions based on the discussions held for the cabinet papers submitted to Tuesday’s meeting by Minister of Gender, Family and Social Protection, Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Marine Resources and Minister of Economic Development.

Revised Kyoto Convention or the International Convention on Simplification and Harmonisation of Customs Procedures is a convention of the World Customs Organisation (WCO). RKC is on the standards and services provided by the customs of WCO. The purpose of RKC is to have firm customs control, standardise customs procedures and guidelines that facilitate businesses among member countries.

The purpose of APCAS is to come up with ways to improve agricultural statistics by meeting member countries in one place. In that sense, the member countries have been meeting in every two years to discuss the ahievements in food and agricultural statistics and have been sharing the information with FAO in the meetings.

In the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, the members have suggested removing the reservations held by the Parliament on CEDAO’s article 16 (1b, 1e,1g, 1h) and 16(2).
CEDAO’s convention is on the challenges women face in education, obtaining health service, employment and earning an income, being politically active, getting civil rights and family-related matters.
