Nasheed will be busted if a new investigation is carried

Umar Naseer, the former Minister of Home Affairs has said that he supports to investigate the case of former president Mohamed Nasheed’s resignation.

Nasheed’s presidency was changed when he resigned on 7th February 2012. He resigned due to severe unrest that took place on 6th February 2012. On the next day of his resignation, Nasheed said that he was forced to resign and said that it was a coup.

There was a Commission formed including some foreign experts to investigate the matter of his resignation. After the investigation, it was decided that it was not a coup. At that time president, Nasheed also respected the Commission's decision. However, after that, on several occasions, he had said it was a coup.

Now he has been saying that there will not be peace in this country if an unbiased investigation is not carried on to see how his government was overthrown.

Responding to Nasheed’s comments, Umar said in an interview given to CNM last night (Sunday) that he will be delighted if an investigation is carried on to see how Nasheed’s presidency changed. If such an investigation is started, there will be many secrets that will unfold that were not covered in the previous CONI (Commission of National Inquiry) report.

Umar made some new allegation to Nasheed which he did not make before.

“I will be pleased if a new investigation is carried on to see it (how Nasheed's presidency changed). There are many secrets that will unfold that were not covered in the previous CONI report that I would like to include. For instance, Nasheed resigned been intoxicated. I did ask to include in the CONI report from which resort the alcohols were brought, who carried it and who drank with him. He resigned while being intoxicated. This is the truth. Of course, we did a lot of work to make him resign”. said Umar.

Umar said the political work done against Nasheed was one of the most successful political tasks done in Maldivian history. Umar said that it is a national task.
