"Chinese debt trap:" eventually invaluable for Govt: Saeed

Maavah MP Mohamed Saeed has stated that while the parliament is in recess, the government has eventually found China's "debt trap" invaluable as gold.

Tweeting a picture of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during his meeting with officials of China's Machinery Engineering Cooperation (CMC) to strengthen bilateral ties, Saeed said that the only ones missing from the picture of the Maldivian government and the one company were the coalition partners, and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

Saeed sarcastically questioned whether China is done with seizing land, whether the Maldives has become Jazeera (developed in island concept), moved away from concretes, and whether the government has undone the “debt trap”.

He further stated that while the parliament is in recess, the government has found the Chinese “debt trap”, as gold, secretly accepted those who seize the lands and concretes has become soft corals and pearls.

Top government officials have expressed their concern over the increasing debt, claiming land seizure. This is most especially expressed within the Parliament.
